WALK LIKE ALICE

SHOWFIELD - A BOOK BY SARAH G. ASCOUGH

"Ascough’s black & white images not only make you feel as if you are there, but also help you understand the skill it takes to get so close but not lose the moment...It’s a classic combination of finely tuned photographic art and a humorous eye. Five stars."

ABOUT THE BOOK

"I looked through with both pleasure and envy! A great addition to the Foundation library."

MARTIN PARR

"It’s absolutely delightful! I spent 5 years working on a weekly local paper and photographed lots of agricultural shows, so your book brought back very happy memories. Love that shot from Bakewell of the man in cap and duck. Also the lady and hairy dog from Longridge. Congratulations."

TOM STODDART

"A wonderfully accomplished, respectful and acutely observed set of pictures full of character. Congratulations - one for the ‘A’ bookshelf."

PETER DENCH

"Great photographs. Great printing."

HOMER SYKES

Showfield is a reflection of Sarah's lifelong love of people and animals. What started as a way of revisiting fond childhood memories became a labour of love which would last two years. Starting the project at one of England's most historic shows in torrential rain, her journey took her across the North of England from small agricultural shows to huge visitor events.

Sarah's images focus on the many characters that exhibit and attend the shows and their relationships to the animals. The resulting book is full of black-and-white documentary images which are engaging, nostalgic, and full of character and humour.

'Showfield' is only available to buy from us. It's a 25x20cm softback book. 70 pages with 60 black and white photographs. Each copy costs £38.50 inc UK postage and is signed by the author. For overseas orders, please get in touch.
