STREET EXPERIENCE DAYS

WITH JEFF & SARAH ASCOUGH

street photograph of three asian girls

EXPERIENCE THE STREET WITH PHOTOGRAPHERS THAT WALK THE WALK

Everyone that has bought a rangefinder camera should experience the environment it was invented for - THE STREET. Shooting in a public place can be exhilarating, a little scary, and completely addictive. It's also the perfect place to hone your photographic skills and discover those you didn't think you had. Yeah, we know there are a gazillion free photo-walks and big group street workshops around, but we actually shoot street as part of our living. It's not a hobby, and we don't treat our experience days as one either!! Seriously, if you want to improve your photography then spend a day with Jeff and Sarah, learn some cool things, and grow your confidence.

WE DON'T DO THE BIG GROUP THING!!

Big groups are a nightmare for street photography. Who wants to be part of the paparazzi? Not only do the big groups attract a lot of attention on the street, but it is also impossible to give photographers the help they need. That's why there is a limit of just FOUR photographers per day. As there are two of us, that's pretty much 1-2-1 tuition. Did you also know that a lot of our attendees are women? Sarah's experience and perspective are invaluable to everyone, but especially to women.

2021 Dates & Locations

We are a little late in announcing this year's dates and locations due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation. We will have some fantastic locations booked just as soon as we know it is safe to do so.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Each day (10.00 - 16.00) costs £195 per person. There will be an hour for lunch (not included).

FILM PHOTOGRAPHY TUITION

WITH JEFF ASCOUGH

Leica film photograph of a beach scene

Film photography is back!! After more than a decade in the doldrums, it is fantastic to see so much interest in analogue capture. The thing is, it isn't digital. Film isn't an instant medium; it takes time and effort to get the very best from it. Shooting with film is so different from digital, and this is where Jeff can help you.

GO ON LOCATION AND REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO SHOOT FILM

Spend a day with Jeff photographing your favourite location. Let him be your guide and show you how to get the best from your Leica film photography. It doesn't matter what your experience is - the day is bespoke and Jeff will cover anything you want. Exposure and metering? No problem. How about finding the film friendly settings on your camera? Sure. How do I stop myself shooting a million frames an hour!?? That's the really big question. Book a day and find out!!

If we can't get out - let's stay in and learn the dark(room) side

You have to do some pretty cool stuff with film in order to get the best out of it. Online we can discover the dark art of scanning negatives, and editing them perfectly in Photoshop. Get in touch to book an online session.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

The full day (10.00-17.00) option costs £750 + travel

Online 1-2-1 Scanning and Editing via Zoom is £100 per hour

WHY LEARN FROM JEFF ASCOUGH?
Jeff spent the first 15 years of his career shooting professionally with film, running both black-and-white and colour darkrooms. He was sponsored by Kodak and FujiFilm. When digital took over the imaging world, he continued to shoot with film combining digital and analog technology. He has been shooting with Leica film cameras for twenty years.

WITH JEFF ASCOUGH

You've got your dream camera and taken some great pictures with it...now what?

“The negative is comparable to the composer’s score and the print to its performance. Each performance differs in subtle ways”

ANSEL ADAMS

Welcome to the dark side of photography, or as Adams called it, the 'performance'. The part of the process where you produce something which you can be proud of putting on your wall or website. Using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, Jeff will show you how to interpret your images, develop the look that you want for them, and how to achieve consistent results efficiently and without relying on canned presets. You will save time and improve the quality of your work. What is there not to like?! Oh, and he's got an absolute killer image management system too.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Online 1-2-1 Zoom sessions with Jeff on any aspect of editing and retouching cost just £100 per hour

WHY LEARN FROM JEFF ASCOUGH?
Aside from the years of darkroom experience and the sponsorship deals with some of the industry's top imaging software companies, Jeff taught digital capture to Sir Don McCullin and printed his digital images for him. Is there anything else that needs to be said?!

Critique & Portfolio Review

GET READY TO CHANGE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE

You know that feeling you get when you look at your pictures and you know there is something not quite right with them but you aren't sure what? That feeling. The one every photographer we've ever known gets. Well, we get that feeling too. It's part of the creative process. To overcome that feeling, we show our work to other photographers for their opinion. Sometimes it may be uncomfortable, but often it will be life changing.

A two-hour 1-2-1 critique via Zoom is just £150

It's difficult to put into words the positive effect of having Jeff look at your work. So we will just let photographers from all over the world do it for us.

"There really aren’t enough words to express my gratitude to you for yesterday, but I’m going to give it one more shot. The last time anyone looked at my work with such insight and clarity and honesty was probably the last proper critique I had in college almost three decades ago. It was refreshing and enormously enlightening and my brain has been busy processing everything since. I suspect this will significantly alter the course of my career in a positive way, and I can’t wait to start making changes to my website. I’ll never look at my work the same way again. In fact, I’ll probably spend most of the next few days reviewing my entire catalog again with fresh eyes. I am eternally grateful to you."

AMANDA S (USA)

"I initially felt a bit intimidated showing my work to Jeff but without judgment he spent time talking me through my collection of images. Drawing on the strengths and weaknesses that I demonstrated, he explained to me why a particular photo stood out based on its merits, and using the same reasoning broke down why other pictures didn’t work. These were concepts that I’d never considered or understood before, despite recognising this discipline within other photographers’ work that I admired, I had no idea about how to attempt to replicate any of that sophistication in my own. The quality of my work has exceeded the ceiling that I thought that I was capable of, and this is directly attributed to the input that I have received from Jeff."

ALEX A (UK)

"With tears in my eyes, I want to thank you again. This meant so much to me (gross understatement), you have helped me immeasurably and I am deeply grateful for your honesty and advice. Thank you is not enough, yet it is all I have. With deep gratitude."

EMMA W (HAWAII)

"Thank you so much for a truly fantastic 2 sessions. It has been eye opening, incredibly rewarding, and a highlight, to after all these years of following you and being inspired and guiding through interviews I read, (especially at the start of my career) to finally have a chance to talk, learn and be critiqued by you!!"

HOOMAN B (USA)

"I highly recommend Jeff to go over your portfolio. I had him help me out with mine and his input is top class. He gave me new tools to look at my photographs and really helped a lot. Can’t recommend him enough."

ANDREA B (ITALY)

"Jeff is very straight talking, honest, but kind and considerate at the same time. I left with an enormous sense of relief as I finally had a sense of direction, some new skills and a feeling I could pull myself out of the rut I was in and move forward in a very positive manner."
